My 11-years-old daughter Kabita was an extremely playful girl. She never wasted any time whatsoever in heading out of the house to play with her friends. One evening while playing, Kabita started shivering and had breathing problem. She immediately came to the house with her friend. Her friend told us Kabita is unwell. We told her to lie down on the bed, As the situation didn’t improve over the next 2 days, my husband and I decided to take Kabita to the doctor. When his medicines didn’t work and our daughter’s condition worsened to such an extent that she wasn’t able to even walk.
We got scared because there seemed to be no explanation as to how our daughter’s health had deteriorated so quickly.
Her Body wasn’t warm, so it wasn’t any sort of fever, so what was it? We rushed her to a hospital. The doctors there couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was wrong with our daughter, but suspected a lung or a heart problem and told us that we will admit her for some tests, after doing the tests the doctors told us that she is having a heart problem. My husband and I were shocked when he told us to take her to a good hospital in Delhi as we don’t have the required facilities in the hospital.
We came to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi and met Dr. Neeraj Aggarwal. After doing the tests, the doctor told us that She has a Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) as well as a problem with one of the valve ever since the time She was born and the cost of the surgery will be Rs 4,00,000/- We were shocked as we don’t have that money. My Husband is a sweeper and I am a housewife.
We feel helpless as we know we will never be able to afford our daughter’s life saving surgery on our own.
